Out of sight, out of mind.

“I want to have six pack abs like yours!”, a guy at my local deli said.

“You have it! You just got to diet the fat away!”

“It’s all diet, right?”, a woman asked, just out of an intense swimming session, “Is it? All the carbs, right? ”

“Exactly!”

“Well, now I don’t feel that bad! I thought, maybe I wasn’t training hard enough for a tight stomach like yours. But no, I want to have my pasta still”

And if you ask me, that’s absolutely fine. As long as you know your options and make a conscious choice, pasta or abs, it’s all good.

But today is about something else.

30 days till my 30s today. I looked at myself in the mirror in the gym today. Evaluated the work. I am a sculptor in the gym. I see my body as a work of art in progress. Weights and diet are my rasp and riffler. I’m fascinated by the process of molding a body into the exact vision I have in mind. Weights are for modeling the shape. Diet is an essential piece a lot of people either underestimate, or underuse, because for most of us it’s the hardest tool to master. Diet is for revealing the final shape, all the hard work, all the details. Nutrition is a fine tuning tool of a body sculpting art. Without it you might forget about seeing your six pack abs, your chiseled hour glass figure (or triangle for guys).

These 30 days before my 30s I’m taking it seriously, all the photo shoots, approaching as many photographers as I can, to get on that fitness magazine cover. And guess what? Getting into my yet best shape ever requires diet fine-tuning. I’m aiming for a world class bikini body. And for that, it will take sticking with my diet plan of whole, simple, low carb foods precisely, for 30 days. It will take going through some hunger. It will take saying NO to so healthy and delicious pecans, pistachios, macadamia nuts, walnuts, pili nuts… Yum! Even for just 30 days, I’m gonna miss you guys — nuts an nut butters! And it’s not going to be easy!

What’s my plan to succeed?

What’s my plan, when I have cravings for my favorite foods?

What’s my plan to stick with the diet plan? No matter the circumstances and all the temptations?

If you don’t plan for hard times, if you don’t rehearse your actions when it gets tough, when hard times come, you’ll fail.

If I know, that I tend to overeat nuts, and it’s almost impossible for me to stop till I have like a pound of them, that can destroy easily a week of body sculpting, when it comes to small adjustments, then I don’t keep nuts in my house, I don’t buy nuts for “later”, I don’t look at nut section in the store just to check it out, I don’t browse my favorite website Nuts.com, I don’t think about nuts and don’t fantasize about all the food I’ll eat once I’m done achieving my goal — this is the recipe for disaster.

Not only you won’t stick with your plan, because your mind will betray you at the first opportunity that will inevitably arrive, but also it will make the whole process so much harder mentally and, if you happen to make it through, chances are — you’ll throw away all the efforts by eating too much too fast. That just what happens, when you think about denying yourself your favorite food for too long.

Out of sight, out of mind.

Make the foods and eating what’s on the plan (First, make sure you have a good plan, not some crazy crush diet) as pleasurable an enjoyable as possible.

Your kryptonite foods, your weaknesses — don’t buy them, don’t walk nowhere near them, don’t look at them, don’t fantasize about them, don’t plan to eat them.

That’s the trick I use to stay on my diet and get the exact body I want. And once I reach my goal — maintenance is so much easier.
