The real currency is NOT money.
Every day checking my social media, people I follow, I see something related to getting more time, getting more energy, hacking lifestyle, multitasking, doing more, getting more, trying to squeeze into the same amount of time and energy more items from the to-do lists.
Life seems to be constantly expanding, there are more choices, more exciting opportunities, more amazing people to meet, more mind-blowing things to see to watch to try to feel to hear to experience…
More, more, and more…
And yet it feels like less, less, and less…
Available to us time seems to be shrinking and we could definitely use a few more hours. Why don’t the days expand too? Right? 30-hour day or something?
Why don’t we get more energy? Learn how to sleep less or not at all? Right?
Have you ever noticed, that when you go to a store and you don’t know what EXACTLY you want — you go to buy something because it feels like you need to buy, maybe a new dress, a pair of shoes or a new phone, new gadget — you end up being overwhelmed with all the choice, end up buying stuff you don’t really need or buying nothing, and most probably you spending a lot of time going through all the available choices and way too much money? You want it all or nothing at all!
Nothing seems enough. Or good enough.
Costs: Overwhelmed. Tired. Lots of time.
Gains: Maybe A thing.
Have you ever had an experience, when you knew EXACTLY what you wanted — a meal, a piece of clothing, a phone, a camera, anything, you knew EXACTLY what you needed at that very moment in your life, all the features, colors, tastes, feelings — how much time did that purchase take? I bet much less time and energy AND it gave you much more satisfaction and enhanced your life in some way. Like you really felt happy about the experience. Everything about it. It just felt right.
Costs: Some time (much less than in the previous example).
Gains: THE thing. Feeling of enhanced life quality. Energy and excitement!
You see, abundance of time and energy is not about having the ability to have it all — we never can have it all — it’s about knowing EXACTLY what you want and need and having the ability to get it, with the least amount of resources — time and energy.
It’s not about being able to buy all the gadgets on the market — you’ll never use them all efficiently — it’s about having THE ONE that makes your life…not perfect…but closer to it.
It’s not about eating all the supplements available on the market to get more energy — it’s about not wasting the energy on unnecessary energy-draining activities in the first place.
It’s about knowing EXACTLY what YOU want and need and choosing it from million and million of choices.
The BIG problem in the society today — people don’t take time to know themselves, know what they need, want, what makes them happy.
The result — trying to be everywhere, everything for everyone and having it all, doing it all — and THAT is not possible and never will be.
The result of that?
No true and lasting life satisfaction no matter what you have, what you achieve, what kind of amazing people you meet or what experiences you have.
The skill of making the right choices has never been as valuable as it is in the world of abundance and always expanding range of choices.
Let’s get back to the beginning.
More time. More energy.
Why do I manage to seemingly have it all?
Do the work I love
Be in great shape
Read at least a book a day
Try new hobbies
Eat healthy food of great quality
Go do things
Sleep enough and feel amazing
Engage with people I admire
Support my friends and family
Listen to and play the music
Savor “Dolce Far Niente” — Sweetness of Doing Nothing moments
I don’t waste TIME OR ENERGY on things that are not important to ME, things that eat my time an energy with no or little return (recognition, looking important, doing the “right” thing to be approved, being likable by everyone, having some status, being with people who drain my energy just for the sake of not being alone, eating stuff just because I can, going to places because everyone goes there, learning things because someone important thinks that’s what I should do even though for me it couldn’t be more boring, buying stuff just because I can, watching or reading something just because it “A MUST”…).
And life gets really simple.
And you have lots of energy no matter how many new choices appear every day.
And you actually feel good. Like really good. Like when you savor that spoon of vanilla ice-cream seemingly forever enjoying every nuance of that rich constantly-changing sensation.
One CAN’T acquire MORE time or energy.
One CAN learn how to use them.
It’s a good thing.
It forces us to know who we are.
It forces us to learn what we truly want and need and make choices accordingly.
It creates a perfect world. Harmony.
Currency of the modern world is not money.
Currency of the modern world is, actually 2, energy and time.
The best part nobody’s telling you?
Everyone gets exactly the same amount.
And it’s NOT about how much you have, it’s about how you spend it.
The rest — it’s just stuff. And the pile of stuff is expanding and gonna crush on you unless you learn to make the right-for-you choices.
One is not wealthy because one has a lot of stuff.
One is wealthy when one has lots of energy and time and knows how to spend it to enhance the quality of life.
That’s the true art of a new era of abundance.
How to master it?
Invest some of that energy-time capital into knowing yourself.
And less stuff.
More time. More energy.
