One CEO goes on a diet.
I work with a lot of top-level managers and professionals, dedicated entrepreneurs, thought leaders and CEOs. At first, when I started working in that environment, I thought I needed to help my clients to learn how to do things better to support their health goals as well as their business goals. As we failed to make long-term progress — healthier lifestyle habits that stick, high energy levels that never fall, fitter and leaner body to enjoy for longer than till the end of financial year or till a project deadline — I realized, that the problem wasn’t the lack of knowledge, lack of motivation, lack of learning abilities or laziness for these high performing people of excellence. The problem was lack of time, lack of focus, lack of attention, everything is directed to something else — to their craft, their business, their mission and vision, their family and other no less important commitments. And so my mission as a coach for them wasn’t to tell them what to do, or even how to do it, my mission was to make it as convenient as possible, so it takes little to no time to execute the solution I propose, be that eating more nutritious foods, doing exercise regularly or sleeping better. I realized, the ONLY way my coaching could work for my high performing clients — if I could manage to help them get better with NO compromises, when it comes to work time and performance. Ideally, also helping them to find more time for family and friends, increasing the amount of space and peace in their mind, simplicity and happiness.
Quite a challenge! But I was up for it. And here are some of the strategies we used to manage health, fitness, energy, mental health and stress better, without compromising work or family life, creating time instead of taking it.
Believe it or not, you can delegate your healthy diet and your exercise routine to someone, who’s already working for you with some guidance from your health/nutrition/fitness coach.
I used to explain all these nutrition concepts to my CEO clients, keto, low carb, intermittent fasting, autophagy, whole foods, high fiber foods, electrolytes, MCTs, biohacking, nootropics…, and they’d listen, and they’d even have the best intentions to follow through — but then real life would happen, busy schedules, travels, meetings, family — and it all would go out of the window.
So now, instead, I briefly interview my clients, we decide what our goals are, how important they are, when we want to reach them, what the action steps are, the strategies, that make sense in each individual situation, and then, they’d put me in touch with people organizing other aspects of their work/personal life — personal assistants, house keepers and personal chefs, wives/husbands, girlfriends/boyfriends — and as a team we’d create a seamless lifestyle transition, that feels like a fairy godmother magically turned the whole world into a health resort.
Proper balanced meals would be cooked, prepared, delivered and served. You keep working, while your food is getting upgraded, without you counting a single calorie or carb.
If you work out at home — I’d create a routine with videos for you to do anywhere, making it as brief and as intense as needed, scheduling it, sending you reminders to do it. I’d get in touch with you personal trainer and let him know what to work on and how, what supplements to get for you, how to take them. Heck, I’d even send you a shaker bottle, if you don’t have one!
Basically, I’d be a CEO of your health. No thinking or decision making required. Changes happen on auto-pilot. You keep getting better. You keep feeling better. You keep looking better.
I can’t change the world for you unfortunately. Not a fairy godmother. There always will be tempting situations, stressful times, not perfectly organized business trips, work deadlines, late flights, that cause sleepless nights and increased hunger for junk food the next day — life happens!
But it can happen less.
I will help you to identify “sabotaging” moments, minimizing the side effects and frequency.
Yes, there will be deadlines, but we can make sure, that you have the perfect sleeping environment, the curtains are always blackout, or at the very least good sleeping mask and a pair of ear plugs are always in your carry-on, the room is always cool and chamomile tea is always hot. And all the hours of sleep are as good as they can possibly be. And there’s always a reminder — there’s always tomorrow, that needs you well-rested and performing your absolute best. So go the f*ck to sleep!
Your environment can work for you instead of training your willpower.
But you’ll still have to make choices — business lunches and dinner, that your PA will not always attend, making an order in business class flying across another ocean to the next event or to close one-in-a-lifetime deal. Choices. Like you don’t have to think too much already?
I’d walk you through all the situations, where previously you’d make the choices, that didn’t work for you — be that too much food, too much alcohol, desserts, when you knew it was best to opt out for a cup of tea instead — we’d figure out what’s your default, no-thinking, auto-pilot choices, your best options, life hacks, that will help you to make the best choice in any environment or situation flawlessly. So, the next time life gives you a test — you’ll know the answers.
