You want guarantees.
“- Girl, you got to change your diet! Let me help you, let me show you how. Let’s go food shopping!”
-Sure. I’d appreciate this. Usually I have some sandwich with coffee in the morning. I usually order from these Chinese place for lunch. Some tofu or chicken with stir-fry vegetables. And then for dinner I have some pizza, or a couple of sandwiches. I can eat some nuts or chips during the day. I guess I should stop eating snacks and pizza, eat less calories to get better, right? I don’t think my diet will help with my anemia, or fibromyalgia, or iron deficiency though, and constant fatigue and problems sleeping and focusing. I got to take these medications — that’s what my doctor told me. Medications and supplements. Look what a fancy packaging this one has! Probably half of the price goes into it. It’s supposed to help me sleep better.
-The diet will help! Believe me! When did you last eat a fresh salad? You know, a lot of greens, fresh vegetables, broccoli, spinach and all that stuff? Fresh fruits? Nuts? Fish like sardines and salmon, some good beef, eggs?
-It’s all so expensive! I can’t eat like that every day! I got to save money for my education, and pay for medications, and health insurance. It will come to $20 a day or more! I can’t spend that much on food!
-Girl, you can’t NOT to! It’s your priority to take care of your health first! Plus you can save and spend less, if you shop smart and stop buying all the other food, that doesn’t help you!
-But who said it would help? Who can guarantee that?…”
Yes, I can not give anyone that guarantee. That healthy food and changing your lifestyle — getting outside, getting Sun, staying active, sleeping better etc., will indeed cure everything and heal you.
Yes, I can not even give you a guarantee, that you’ll lose weight fast, even though countless number of people do it every month.
But changing nothing and treating symptoms with medications, definitely will not make you healthy. It might relieve the symptoms for a while, making one condition go away just to reappear very soon, or turning into something else no less annoying and painful.
And yes, I can guarantee, that you will get better than you are now. I’m not sure how fast, and what it will look like, but you will get better. I can guarantee you that!
The only thing — you got to put in the work. The only thing - you will have no one to blame, if you are not 100% satisfied, or relief does not come soon enough.
It’ll be all on you. And who knows, if you even make the journey to the very end, till you succeed.
Maybe that’s why people prefer medications to lifestyle/diet change?
Too much work. Personal responsibility. No guarantees. No one to blame.
